Newborn Photography

Perfect for babies between 0 – 4 weeks

Not little for very long  …

Newborns are “new” for what will seem like a few minutes when you look back, so capturing those first, magical, fleeting moments with your new baby is so important.  You’ll want to be able to remember all of this in the years to come, and having professional photographs taken is the best way to do that.  I have over 12 years experience as a newborn photographer, and I’m fully trained in baby posing & safety – so you can feel confident knowing that your little one will be in safe hands as you sit back and relax at the studio, watching me gently pose your baby, taking beautiful, forever photographs for you and your family.

Let’s capture everything that makes them newborns – those wrinkles and rolls, wisps of hair, their tiny eyelashes, fingers and toes, nose, ears and squidgy lips, all the things you’ll love SO much and that are so easily forgotten as they grow and change so quickly – especially through the first year.

You can reserve your newborn session with a £20 reservation fee and this guarantees you a space in our diary once baby has arrived.

A 2 to 3 hours newborn photo session is £70 paid as the booking deposit to secure your date and time in the studio.

When to book

As we can only book a certain amount of newborn babies each month (to ensure that we can accommodate everyones due dates), it’s best to make a provisional booking for the month you’re expecting baby’s arrival, so we can guarantee you one of those spaces in our diary.

After your 20 week scan is usually a good time to reserve your newborn photo session.  (We’ll arrange the actual date once baby is here.)  A small reservation fee of just £20.00 is payable as a deposit, and we can then add you to our booking calendar.

Newborn sessions are ideally held within the first two weeks of babies arrival, with the best time being around 5 to 12 days old, so we ask that you call us within two days of baby’s birth if possible, and then we can get you booked in within the ideal timescales.  However, this is just a guide and please feel free to get in touch if you’ve left it until later – we’ll always do our best to accommodate your needs, and we often have last minute availability because babies tend to decide themselves when they want to arrive!  Newborn sessions require a £70 booking fee, which is payable as a non-refundable deposit to secure your appointment in our diary once baby is here.  The session fee does not include images as these are chosen at a later date once your session has been edited and your viewing gallery is ready.

Questions you might have

Where are the sessions held?

All sessions take place in our lovely photo studio which is located in Cwmbran, NP44 1RF, South East Wales, UK. Newborn sessions are held on week day mornings.  However if you need a weekend session there will be a £30 surcharge to add onto your final balance.

All immediate family members are always welcome to be included in the photographs with your new baby, and there is no additional charge.

What do I need to bring?

Just your usual changing bag, plenty of feeds for baby and your method of payment to pay on the day – we accept credit or debit cards or cash.  You can choose to use any of our outfits, blankets and accessories, or bring your own along too if you would like to incorporate something personal in the photographs.

It’s best to stick to a light and very neutral colour palette rather that clothing with patterns, large logos or bright colours.  Some of my favourite items of clothing for mums are camisole/vest tops, long sleeve knit jumpers/cardigans, linen tops/shirts, floaty dresses etc.  Anything that’s not too fussy and that’s comfortable, so you are more relaxed and you can enjoy having photos taken.  Dads should stick to plain t shirts, long sleeve tops, shirts or thin wool jumpers. Small fashion logos are absolutely fine, but large wording across tops can be very distracting on the finished images. Plain linen shirts also photograph well and have a lovely casual effect.  We have a collection of flattering dresses in the studio wardrobe that photograph beautifully that you are more than welcome to use if they suit.   For the kids, again go with unpatterned white/cream/pastel coloured dresses or tops for girls, and for boys plain, white / light coloured tops or t shirts with tan /khaki / brown and light denim trousers or shorts look great.

A friendly reminder about fake tan.   Your skin tone will be much warmer/orange toned than your partner/family/newborn baby, so please bear this in mind as it can not be edited out or matched to a more natural skin colour afterwards.  Same advice about nail polish too – clean, manicured nails are perfect for newborn photos, but if you want to wear polish, make sure it’s fresh, unchipped and preferably in a neutral or pastel shade.

I was really nervous about having these photos taken, and just didn’t have a clue about posing, but Jane was so welcoming and made me feel really relaxed right from the start.  I really love the photos I had taken and I’m so glad I did this photoshoot to remember my pregnancy.
